On my continuing journey to chemical-free, healthy hair, I’ve decided that the big chop is probably the easiest and most care-free way for me to achieve my hair goals. The big chop involves cutting off the relaxed or permed ends when transitioning from chemically processed hair to natural hair. The big chop allows for a fresh start and a gradual adjustment as your natural hair grows rather than being overwhelmed with both new growth and straight ends and having to manage two different textures of hair.
For some naturals, transitioning slowly and managing two or even three textures is easier and more desirable but, based on my experience, I feel the exact opposite. In addition, protective styles like braids, weaves or wigs are not for me. On second thought, maybe braids would suit me but only for a very short period of time. I have no intention of shaving my head but when my new growth once again starts to take over, chop, chop is going to be my preferred and much easier method of transitioning this time.
