The Women of Black Panther

The Women of Black Panther

The Black Panther fever I’ve been feeling since the first movie trailer was released last year is still intense. All the pre-sale tickets are said to be sold out but I will see this movie on its opening weekend of February 16, 2018 (I rarely go to the theater to see a movie much less on opening weekend).

  • Black Panther is based on the Marvel superheroes comic book series about the power struggle in an advanced (and secret) African nation called Wakanda. Its hero and King is the supernatural and bulletproof T’Challa, aka, Black Panther.

The reviews of this movie are off the charts and there is a lot of commentary about the women superheroes in the film for being well developed characters and fully integrated into the storyline of Black Panther in an impactful way. This past week was the Red Carpet World Premiere (the carpet was in fact purple), Monday, January 29, 2018 in Los Angeles, California, which featured African Royalty themed attire.

The star-studded cast of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther movie include Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther – T’Challa), Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), Michael B. Jordan (Erik Killmonger), Angela Bassett (Ramonda, Queen Mother to T’Challa), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Florence Kasumba (Ayo), Forest Whitaker, Winston Duke, Daniel Kaluuya (W’Kabi) and Sterling K. Brown (N’Jobu).
